Artist Statement
After graduating from college, I didn’t have a clear direction for my future. One day, I came across a sports documentary called Ten Thousand Hours online and thought, “Basketball and filmmaking? That’s so cool!” That moment sparked something in me, and I began working as an event videographer. Back then, I had no plans to become a filmmaker.
During that time, I met a wheelchair basketball team captain who found new hope in life through sports. I witnessed a team that used to win only a few games each season eventually rise to become champions. I also got to know a group of passionate high school athletes who poured their youth into the court, day after day. Slowly, I realized that the small camera in my hands was capable of carrying powerful, meaningful stories.
A few years later, I came to Los Angeles to study at LMU’s School of Film and Television, hoping to expand my skills and perspective. But the stories I want to tell haven’t changed. In this seemingly harsh world, I hope my work can deliver strength—reigniting a spark for those who feel lost, offering a moment of peace, or simply a quiet encouragement.
My name is Yu Che Shen, a filmmaker from Taiwan, striving to create change through the power of storytelling.
大學畢業後，我還不太確定自己想做什麼。那時候在網路上看到一部運動紀錄片《一萬個小時》，心想：「籃球加上錄影？這也太酷了吧！」從那之後，我開始從事活動紀錄的攝影工作，當時還沒有拍電影的念頭。
隨著時間過去，在與運動員相處的過程中，我看到了許多動人的故事：因為運動而重燃人生希望的輪椅籃球隊隊長、從一季僅拿幾勝到幾年後奪冠的球隊、每天到球場只為磨練球技的高中熱血球員。我發現，我手上這台小小的相機，竟能乘載這些有重量的故事。
幾年後，我來到洛杉磯 LMU 的電影研究所，希望開拓我的技術與視野。但我想說的故事沒有改變——尤其在這個看似殘酷的世界中，我希望我的影片能傳遞到每一個角落，為感到失落的人注入一份熱血，帶來一些鼓勵，或是一點平靜的力量。
