“In my dreams, I can run and sprint. But when I wake up, I can’t even move. Why can’t I just stay in the dream? ” - Lǚ Jùnyì
I had the honor of filming a documentary about Lü, the captain of Taiwan’s wheelchair basketball team. During his graduation trip, Lü was tragically hit by a car, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. However, with the unwavering support of his girlfriend, he attended a wheelchair basketball game that reignited his passion for life.
After the interview, I had tears in my eyes. I truly felt the importance of filmmaking—that I got to record and share a message about resilience, love, and the strength of the people around him. I want to use basketball as a medium to tell a story about finding connections.
I have always been fascinated by how people confront challenges. I love observing the raw nature that emerges in moments of adversity—perhaps their resilience serves as a reminder for me to live with more determination. I am passionate about capturing these moments, whether through documentaries or narrative films, bringing these stories to light.
In a time of uncertainty and chaos, I hope my films can offer strength to those who need it—whether as a source of motivation or a place of refuge.
